One of the most common questions I get asked about Maine is surrounding lodging. Specifically, lodging for large groups, extended family vacations, pal getaways, etc. Places that have enough room (comfortably) for the entirety of the group - but also places that feel authentically Maine, are close to the sights, kid-friendly, offer one night stay options, allow dogs and preferably: ones that won’t entirely break the bank.
Trying to accomplish all of that in the summer? In Maine?! Impossible. It can’t be done, you might say.
But psssst: I found it.
Point Lookout Cabins in Northport, Maine offers studio to three bedroom authentic pine log cabins nestled amongst the trees. As you can see from the below map, there are lots of cabins - even still, they feel private. And if with an extra large group that requires multiple cabins - you can secure your own little haven together.
Our cabin, number 78 tucked against the woods, offered two bedrooms and two bathrooms. An enclosed porch greets you (perfect for some morning coffee sipping) and then an impeccably clean (spotless, seriously) cabin awaits. The beds are comfortable, the kitchen is stocked with essentials, the AC is strong and the living room spacious.
There’s also individual firepits at each cabin for some late night s’more roasting. It’s the perfect, simple landing pad after a day of adventuring.
Other amenities on Point Lookout’s property that I wasn’t expecting included a 5,000 square foot gym, a turf soccer field, ping pong and pool tables, a playground and direct access to hiking trails from the property. No matter what the weather brings - or the group you find yourself with - there is, quite literally, something for everyone. All just steps from your cabin.
