There are so many mini adventures and gems of activities that I often forget exist in my own neighborhood. Little blips of fun, hacks or hidden finds that are waiting just around the corner from you.
In a series I hope to continue with other pockets of Maine, here’s the first entry featuring 10 super fun, random, mini adventures/insights/surprises/did-ya-knows in Portland!
Did You Know? (Portland, Maine)
🧊 Did you know that there is a rooftop terrace where you can reserve igloos in the heart of the Old Port? Each igloo can accommodate up to 6 guests - and they have space heaters and Bluetooth speakers so you can play DJ. Plus full bar and dinner menu service from Alto Terrace Bar & Bistro! There is a fee to reserve a 90 minute time block - but what better way to celebrate something (or someone) special?
🌿 Did you know that there is a beautifully landscaped garden hidden behind the Longfellow House in the heart of the city? And that it’s free and open to the public from May-October? It’s described as a “secluded Colonial Revival style garden” and after winding through the meandering paths, it’s the perfect place to enjoy your lunch.
🫒 Did you know that Anastasia Inciardi, a Portland-based print-maker, has put Mini Print Vending Machines in 5 locations in the United States? Two of which, I have visited recently in Portland! They are so fun! For 4 quarters, you’ll receive a surprise mini print (so far, I’ve secured a martini, olive, popsicle and egg) plus a fleeting moment of feeling like you are a kid again.
