You know what I did instead yesterday? I swam for hours with my daughter.
Though I aspire to be the wet-suit wearing, ocean-diving, all-season Atlantic swimmer that so many in Maine are - I’m sorry to say it wasn’t in the chilly sea where we splashed for a few hours.
After school pickup on Wednesday, with a full holiday break now on our hands, I asked my kiddo if there was anything (besides, you know, getting spoiled by relatives and ripping open presents on Christmas) that she really wanted to do over break. Almost immediately, she responded: “I want to go swimming with you.”
Sure, easy, swimming in Maine. In December.
After bedtime that night, I went down a rabbit hole searching for indoor pools that offered day passes. Distance doesn’t intimidate me, but even still - it’s nearly impossible (unless you have a membership somewhere/booked a room at a resort) to find a pool that offers daily rentals. After some serious sleuthing and a few phone calls to confirm - I found one in Southern Maine.
And not just an indoor pool - but there’s an indoor whirlpool as well. Day pass visitors have access to the Roman Spa (similar to a Roman bath - essentially a saltwater jacuzzi) and a spacious, sun-soaked heated pool. All for - get this - $20. Total. And if you only want to use the pool? It’s $5.
