Happy to say: I took my own advice from last week’s newsletter. With one last scheduled hurrah, Summer 2024 went out with a bang.
With no camps remaining and previously allotted time off for the parents in this house, a stretch of free summer days remained on our calendar. A stretch long enough to warrant one more adventure, one more getaway.
It’s probably no surprise that I keep a meticulous, detailed list of places that I’d like to explore in Maine. It’s so organized, so expansive, so… ridiculous. It could take a lifetime - two lifetimes - to conquer. And I’m asked constantly (by my husband, friends, strangers) where I find these places.
Most of the time, I can point to a person, an article, a deep, borderline creepy rabbithole I fell down that led me to a place - but this one, I honestly don’t know. I don’t know! I don’t remember where I found it, when I found it or how it made it onto my bonkers to-visit list.
But let me tell you (which I will, obviously, because that’s what I do in this newsletter): I sure am glad it made on there.
I’m already a sucker for all things MidCoast Maine. Nothing beats driving up Route 1, craning your neck to check out the overfilling buoy-coated antique stores and grabbing snacks from the old-school general stores in every seaside town. The stretch from Bath to Belfast is what dreams (mine anyway) are made of.
